Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) militants carried out a terrifying attack on March 11, 2025. They took control of the Jaffar Express as it made its way from Quetta to Peshawar. The armed attackers stopped the train and held 440 passengers captive, insisting on the freedom of Baloch political prisoners.

Deadly Attack and Military Response

The hijackers killed 21 passengers and four security personnel during the incident. Pakistan's military stepped in launching an operation that led to a fierce fight. They eliminated all 33 attackers and rescued 339 passengers .

Government Reaction and Accusations

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke out against the attack and commended the military for their quick action. Pakistan has pointed the finger at Afghanistan claiming they give shelter to BLA militants. Afghan officials however, say this isn't true.

What's the deal with the Baloch Liberation Army?

The BLA wants more control over Balochistan, a province full of resources. They're fighting to break away and have attacked Pakistani troops and Chinese projects in the area. They see these as taking advantage of what belongs to the locals.

This bus takeover marks one of the worst flare-ups in the ongoing Baloch rebellion. Security remains tight as officials try to figure out how the militants planned and carried out the attack.
